About Splash:
Our mission is to bring the joy of music making to everyone, and we’ve been pioneering the intersection of artificial intelligence and music since 2017.
We’ve made significant strides in connecting artists and fans, particularly through our engaging experiences on Roblox, which have captivated millions of young users. By leveraging the power of AI, we’re reshaping the way people interact with and create music.
With the support of renowned investors including Amazon's Alexa Fund and Khosla Ventures, Splash is poised for rapid growth. We're actively expanding our diverse team of talented musicians, engineers, and creatives who share our passion for pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in music and AI.
The Role:
We’re hiring a Software Engineer to join our Game Development team to join our small, passionate team working on our flagship Roblox game played by millions of users - Splash Music & Skate.
You don’t need Roblox Studio or Lua experience to apply (though it's a bonus). What we’re really looking for is a seasoned software engineer turned game developer - someone who thrives in new environments, learns fast, and brings a strong foundation in engineering best practices to everything they build. This as a full-spectrum role, where your impact will span gameplay systems, backend architecture, cross-product integrations, SDK development, and more.
You’ll collaborate directly with our executive team, designers, artists, and engineers to craft new features, upgrade existing systems, and help evolve the game and tech behind it. From legacy code refinement to launching new tools and gameplay mechanics, your work will help define the future of interactive music experiences for Gen Z and Gen Alpha creators.
This role is perfect for someone who has built and shipped games - ideally more nimble projects than big, years-long AAA productions - and who enjoys balancing game design thinking with modern software engineering discipline.
Responsibilities:
- Build, maintain, and modernize game systems inside our Roblox experience
- Work across the stack—from gameplay mechanics to infrastructure tools
- Bring a game designer's mindset to problem solving: user-focused, creative, and iterative
- Collaborate on cross-platform integrations between our web and in-game systems
- Contribute to the development of SDKs, internal tools, and pipelines
- Assist with architecture and best practices that scale as the game grows
- Collaborate with product, design, and content teams on rapid feature delivery
- Own your work from prototype to launch—performance, polish, and iteration
Requirements:
- 3+ years experienced as software engineer with strong generalist skills across game and non-game systems
- Working experience with Lua or similar programming (Unity, Unreal, or custom engines)
- Professional experience in game development
- Shipped one or more games, apps or digital products
- Experience with modern development practices including continuous integration, continuous delivery, version control and testing
- Pragmatic and fast-moving—you know how to balance quality, performance, and timelines
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong problem solving skills with a high attention to detail.
- Organised with an ability to deliver tasks within tight deadlines.
- Persistent self-motivation, initiative, and drive.
- Working rights in Australia.
Nice to have:
- Passion for music , we have a lot of musicians and music aficionados here at Splash!
What to expect:
- Work alongside our senior executives, who bring a wealth of knowledge from previous roles at SoundCloud, Spotify, Twitch, and YouTube.
- Work within a small, dynamic team backed by leading investors including Amazon’s Alexa Fund, Khosla Ventures, BITKRAFT Ventures, and King River Capital.
- Be part of a talented group of creatives, musicians, engineers that value initiative and imagination – we also love music and gaming.
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion:
Music has the incredible ability to bridge divides and bring people together, regardless of their background or identity. Like the industry we work within, diversity, equity and inclusion are at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered. We actively seek out and welcome voices from all backgrounds and believe that diverse perspectives fuel our creativity and drive
success.
