About Ofload and Our Mission

FreightTech is one of the most exciting spaces to be in right now, with the opportunity to transform one of the largest industries. Freight in Australia is a $66 billion market, yet it is analogue and has many inefficiencies: 30% of the time, trucks drive empty. Networks lack transparency, data flows are fragmented, and smaller transport operators face barriers to competing with the big players.

At Ofload, we’re changing how the freight industry operates and bringing it into the digital world. We leverage technology, data, and strategic partnerships to connect a growing roster of blue-chip customers with smaller, highly efficient transport operators. By reducing empty truck miles, improving visibility, and optimising supply chains, we’re driving smarter, greener, and more efficient operations that benefit businesses and the environment.

This isn’t just logistics—it’s FreightTech: a tech-powered transformation of an industry that is the backbone of the economy and touches everyone’s lives.

At Ofload, we combine the agility of a tech startup with the impact of tackling a massive, real-world problem. If you’re ready to be part of an ambitious team reshaping the freight future, we want to hear from you.

The Role:
We’re looking for a Senior Data Engineer to own and build our data platform from the ground up — shaping how data flows, is structured, and ultimately drives decision-making across the business.

This is a true zero-to-one opportunity. You’ll take fragmented, multi-source data and design a scalable, real-time data warehouse that powers everything from BI reporting through to advanced analytics and AI use cases.

You won’t just be handed requirements — you’ll define the data strategy, own the metrics, and build the pipelines that unlock commercial impact. Working closely with Product, Engineering, Finance and BI, you’ll sit at the centre of how the business understands and uses data.

This role is ~80% hands-on engineering and ~20% stakeholder engagement — ideal for someone who wants to build, but also influence.

What you’ll do:

  • Design and build a scalable, modern data warehouse (greenfield) to support business-wide analytics and future AI use cases
  • Develop robust ETL/ELT pipelines to ingest and transform data from multiple sources into clean, usable datasets
  • Own data modelling, schema design, and metric definitions across the business
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, BI and Finance to deeply understand data needs and translate them into scalable solutions
  • Drive data quality, reliability, and performance at scale
  • Evaluate and optimise the data stack (build vs buy decisions, tooling, architecture)
  • Support real-time data initiatives to enable faster, more informed operational decisions
  • Mentor and guide a junior data engineer, with scope to grow the team over time

What you’ll bring:

  • Proven experience building and scaling data platforms end-to-end (ideally in a product-led environment)
  • Strong hands-on capability across data engineering fundamentals — pipelines, modelling, warehousing
  • Experience working with modern data stacks (e.g. Snowflake/Redshift, SQLMesh, DBT, Fivetran, PostgreSQL)
  • Proficiency in SQL and at least one programming language (e.g. Python)
  • Ability to work across different tech stacks and adapt to evolving architecture
  • Strong understanding of data quality, performance, and scaling considerations
  • Experience working cross-functionally with Product, Engineering and business stakeholders
  • Ability to translate ambiguous business problems into clear data solutions

At Ofload we prioritise impact, aptitude and passion, so we’d encourage you to apply if you do not meet all the above criteria. When you apply, please let us know of any reasonable adjustments you may need during the interview process.

More than a job! We look after you through:

  • Flexibility and Wellbeing: Balance your life with hybrid work arrangements, including remote work options and additional leave for volunteering, celebrations, and personal milestones.
  • Empowerment and Growth: access to a $500 learning and development budget to put towards your professional growth, in-house workshops & Lunch & Learns; and
  • Our annual Summer Camp offsite

Office Benefits:

  • Weekly catered breakfast, monthly team lunch and a number of delicious snacks
  • Morning brew of your choice at our local cafe
  • Quarterly celebrations and team events;
  • Table tennis, board games and an office library
