The Company

Metropolis is an artificial intelligence company that uses computer vision technology to enable frictionless, checkout-free experiences in the real world. Today, we are reimagining parking to enable millions of consumers to just "drive in and drive out." We envision a future where people transact in the real world with a speed, ease and convenience that is unparalleled, even online. Tomorrow, we will power checkout-free experiences anywhere you go to make the everyday experiences of living, working and playing remarkable - giving us back our most valuable asset, time.

The Role

Metropolis is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead the design and development of our field deployed custom hardware systems. We are developing a broad suite of technologies that enable the operation of our CV/ML platform, including camera and computer vision systems, embedded computers, IoT sensors and automated access control systems. As a senior member of the Hardware Engineering team, you will be responsible for defining and developing the electronics designs for these systems, working with both internal cross-functional teams and external partners to deliver best in class solutions for Metropolis. You will be expected to participate in the entire electronic system lifecycle, from early development through manufacturing and into field deployment and long-term support. Each day, you will work closely with members of Advanced Technologies (Hardware, Machine Learning and Platform Engineering) and Technical Operations organizations to define requirements and support manufacture and deployment of hardware systems into production.

Responsibilities

  • Design and development of electrical architecture and solutions, including component selection, schematic capture and documentation.
  • Design and develop electronics test and verification infrastructure.
  • Ensure all electronic systems comply with appropriate certification and regulatory approvals.
  • Participate in all phases of design, from design and prototyping to manufacturing and deployment
  • Drive coordination with a cross-functional team including HW/SW engineers, ML/CV engineers, product management, technical operations and third-party vendors
  • Contribute to prototype and ideation on new designs, as well as continuous improvement of existing systems.
  • Create and maintain product documentation and adhere to project lifecycle management best practices.
  • Support troubleshooting of field deployed systems, aligning resources for investigation, resolution, and post-mortem activities.
  • Lead and participate in engineering design reviews

Requirements and Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  • 6+ years of electronics and/or electrical engineering experience
  • Experience developing electrical engineering solutions for consumer electronics or industrial applications including aerospace, energy, defense or industrial automation.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver end-to-end electrical solutions from design to deployment
  • Examples of leading hardware development projects, preferably in the camera/sensor/imaging system domain.
  • Significant experience using commercial eCAD tools (Altium, OrCAD, Eagle, PADS)
  • Experience designing electrical solutions involving RF components, including the 900MHz, 2.4GHz, and various 5G / LTE RF bands.
  • Professional level ability to perform schematic capture and multilayer PCB layout
  • Familiarity with common serial data interfaces including support of high-speed RAM/ROM
  • Comfortable performing thermal and/or CFD analysis on electronic and electromechanical designs.
  • Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Python or C/C++
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a proven ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences
  • Previous experience working inside innovative, high-growth environments is a plus
